Six ways to achieve a successful content strategy
Nobody doubts the importance of offering useful and quality training to staff and given the everchanging environment we live in; quality training has never been more critical. In fact, it’s predicted that current primary school students will work in roles that don’t even exist yet. In order to prepare for the future, companies must constantly provide their employees with new skills and knowledge that enables them to efficiently perform tasks and learn skills for these new positions.
So how can we enhance learning in the workplace?
There are three key concepts to bear in mind when building a learning strategy. Content strategy, modern learning and technology enablement. It’s the former concept that many companies struggle to develop. Whilst modern learning and technology enablement ultimately rely on the tools that you choose, content strategy must come from your employees and be relevant to your organisation and its values. Below are six ways that organisations can achieve a successful content strategy and truly enhance the power of learning in the workplace:
- Personalisation: It is important to offer each employee training adapted to their personal needs and preferences. Microlearning, for example, provides a great opportunity for time-strained employees to learn in small chunks when they have a spare few minutes.
- Responsibility: Each worker is responsible for their own professional development but it’s the role of the company to help guide them down that learning path. With this in mind, involve your employees in designing the learning content. You can also send out annual surveys to see which content is most useful and relevant to your employees.
- Application of new technology: this is essential to create a content strategy that motivates and promotes employee commitment. Through the creation of a platform that collects all available information in a simple and intuitive way, new employees can access all the courses they may need without the help of HR.
- Mobility and adaptation: In 2025, 75 percent of workers will be millennials and companies must adapt their content strategy to fit around them. Millennials are accustomed to being able to access knowledge at any time, from anywhere and any device, so learning content that’s accessible via mobile phones or tablets is a necessity.
- Gamification: We retain knowledge better when we enjoy learning it and gamification can be a great way to encompass this. When designing your learning content, try adding small quizzes at the end of learning modules or incorporate a leader board for each team to make it more competitive.
- Collaboration and Recognition: Creating learning communities amongst colleagues is becoming popular in learning strategies. It can provide employees with encouragement, and support, allowing them to carry out their learning in an agile manner and publicly recognising those who contribute the most.
