Cross corporate learning, from ‘I’ to ‘we’

May 03, 2017 Geoffroy De Lestrange

At LEARNTEC 2017 ‘cross corporate learning’ was the main trend discussed. This is a concept where companies with similar values support each other and work together on projects for employee promotion. Medium-sized companies with up to 500 employees can profit from this new concept by collaborating with other companies  to optimise employee training.

Cooperate with the value chain

The idea that companies work together to promote their workforces may seem a little exotic. However, there are often favourable partnerships in the field of learning, like if the employees from a firm are partnered with colleagues from a manufacturing company.

Through cross-corporate learning, people can learn from the experience of both companies, and scenarios can be developed where existing barriers can be broken down, such as internal company blindness or incoherent KPIs. At the same time, costs and resources are saved when companies can work together.

The UK’s largest manufacturer of dashcams, Nextbase, recently collaborated with Sure Thing! Insurance services. Nextbase needed to break into the insurance market and through partnering with Sure Thing! they gained valuable sector insight, adding to the value of the business.

In some cases, competing companies may also have an interest in training their staff together to get the most out of the workforce. For example, the achievement of certain quality standards; Restaurant chains or restaurateurs could draw up joint hygiene trainings for their employees, as all parties have an interest in meeting these standards. Not only is the individual employee supported by both companies but also weak points in the companies learning structure can be identified and corrected. As a result, future cooperation amongst all sectors can be incredibly beneficial.

Forge an alliance of learning

In the end, however, the question remains: Who is providing companies with a platform where companies can carry out cross-corporate learning, while continuing specific training for their own employees? With its solutions in the field of learning and onboarding, Cornerstone offers a portal in the background that gives a holistic solution with individual and practical tools to implement a coherent LMS.

After all, the respective companies not only develop their teams further but also strengthen bonds between customers and partners through cross-corporate learning. This is called learning alliances. Similarly, why should the transfer of knowledge only take place within the company's own four walls? Often, the different departments in a company do not come together because their working techniques are too far apart.

learning alliance helps mid-sized companies that cannot afford their own cloud-based learning architecture to both learn and teach alongside a selection of other companies. This cross corporate learning shifts companies thinking From the I to the We!
