New Cornerstone OnDemand Foundation Helps Non-Profits Increase their Community Impact
The Foundation leverages Cornerstone OnDemand’s talent management expertise, as well as global client and partner ecosystem, to empower communities
Santa Monica, Calif., May 18, 2010 – While the economic downturn has impacted funding for non-profits, they are equally challenged by the ability to retain and develop the right people to achieve their missions. With this in mind, learning and talent management software leader Cornerstone OnDemand is launching the Cornerstone OnDemand Foundation. The Foundation provides non-profits with a complete solution – including software, support and consulting services – to manage their people and increase their impact in the communities they serve.
The Foundation is a priority for Cornerstone OnDemand founder and CEO Adam Miller, who is serving as its Chairman. Miller unveiled the Foundation this morning during his opening day keynote at Convergence 2010, Cornerstone’s annual client and partner conference.
“Cornerstone’s mission is to empower people. We created the Cornerstone OnDemand Foundation to demonstrate our commitment to that mission,” said Miller. “We believe that by leveraging our expertise in talent management and the resources brought to bear by our global ecosystem of clients and partners, we can truly empower communities and increase the impact of leading nonprofits.”
In order to focus the Foundation’s efforts, target areas were selected that align with Cornerstone’s specific business expertise, including education, workforce development and disaster relief. Each year, the Foundation will invite a limited number of leading non-profits whose mission aligns with these target areas to apply for the Strategic Partnership Program. Strategic Partners are awarded a two-year contract, under which they receive Cornerstone’s software and consulting services at no cost. Initial partners include:
“Our program recruits and trains recent college graduates of all academic majors and career interests to commit two years to teach in our nation’s most underserved schools and become leaders in the effort to expand educational opportunity,” said Ellen Shepard, Chief Information Officer for Teach for America, which has been a Foundation Strategic Partner for the past year. “With the support of the Cornerstone OnDemand Foundation, we have been able to improve the training process for these new teachers and provide greater development access and support once they are in schools. This helps lead to improved student performance and furthers our mission of ensuring that all students have the educational opportunities they deserve.”
The Cornerstone OnDemand Foundation also is partnering with the Taproot Foundation to launch a formal pro bono program to strengthen HR expertise within the nonprofit sector. This 'HR Pro Bono Corps' will match HR professionals from Cornerstone’s global client base with nonprofits in need of learning and talent management consulting and expertise. According to a Taproot survey of 250 non-profits, 86 percent of respondents indicated there was at least one human resource challenge for which they would seek HR pro bono support if it were available.1
“Nonprofits generally lack the capacity or resources to give critical HR issues such as people management, training and development, and leadership development the attention they deserve,” said Jamie Hartman, Executive Director of the Pro Bono Action Tank for the Taproot Foundation. “Corporate HR professionals represent a large pool of potential support. We look forward to working with the Cornerstone OnDemand Foundation to formalize the HR pro bono corps and help nonprofits craft successful approaches to the HR challenges they face.”
Taproot’s Director of Product and Program Development, Alethea Hanneman, will promote the HR Pro Bono Corps and share how HR professionals can become agents for social change at Convergence 2010. Hanneman will deliver a keynote tomorrow with Karen Baker, Secretary of Service and Volunteering for the State of California, who will discuss the growing national movement of volunteerism.
Programs and services provided by the Cornerstone OnDemand Foundation include:
- Partnership Program: Through the Partnership Program, the Foundation offers non-profits Cornerstone’s software and services.
- Evaluation & Consulting Services: To amplify its impact, the Foundation is forming alliances with leading talent management analyst firms such as Bersin & Associates and Knowledge Infusion, as well as HR technology content and outsourcing firms such as HRSG and Intelladon. These partnerships, as well as Cornerstone’s HR Pro Bono Corps, allow the Foundation to provide wrap-around research and consulting services to non-profits to help them assess their talent needs, develop sound strategies, understand HR best practices and measure the impact of their talent initiatives.
- Community Empowerment Initiatives: The Foundation will provide software grants to Cornerstone OnDemand clients who propose to leverage the company’s software in innovative ways for community impact.
- Strategic Initiatives: The Foundation incubates and launches strategic initiatives based on market need and response. Currently, the Foundation is working on the development of a Volunteer Management System to increase the efficacy of volunteer programs for both nonprofits and corporate social responsibility initiatives. In addition, the Foundation is working with leading nonprofits in the K-12 area to develop a Teacher Empowerment Portal.
